Program Description

Event Details

The Library invites community members with ties to DeWitt to attend this special event! Enjoy a variety of activities centered around community history, including opportunities to share your own DeWitt memories. If you have items at home such as family photographs or documents that offer insight into DeWitt area history, we encourage you to bring them to the event! Items will be scanned and the digital copies added to the library's local history collection (and a copy saved for your personal collection if you're interested - see below for more information). We are looking for unique items that relate to DeWitt area people, places, and events - past or present.

During the event, we invite you to:

  • Bring photographs, letters, and documents to be scanned and added to the DeWitt District Library's local history collection
  • Record a short oral history of a DeWitt memory
  • Enjoy a viewing of Peggy Szasz' famous DeWitt pictorial quilts
  • View a selection of items from the library's local history collection
  • Meet with a member of the Clinton County Historical Society
  • Enjoy a themed kids craft
  • Receive information about how to care for your family history materials

If you plan to bring items to be scanned, please pre-register to help us best plan the day. Participants may bring up to five items for scanning. We will be able to scan flat, loose items in good condition such as documents, letters, and photographs (including slides and negatives) up to 8.5 x 14. You will keep your physical items after they have been scanned. If you would like a copy of the scan, please bring a flash drive or external hard drive.
